The Faculty Life
Course Committee addressed 2 major issues during the academic year 2004-2005.
1.
Major
issues of concern of newly hired faculty and their optimal integration into the
Emory community.
a.
To
establish an official start date for new faculty consonant with the actual
start date (such that materials were available to newly hired faculty to enable
computer access, ID cards, library access, parking, athletic facilities, etc.,
once the faculty member arrives on campus).
b.
To
provide new faculty hires with the opportunity to review, discuss, and process
paperwork for health insurance, retirement plans, and other benefits prior to
their official start date.
c.
To
provide an optimal orientation to the Emory community.
Through a series
of meetings with HR, the Senior Associate Dean of the College, the Senior Vice Provost and her staff, etc., virtually all these issues
have been adequately resolved. Follow-up on the success of these changes will
be done within the next years.
Dr. Dan
Teodorescu, with input from multiple University faculty and staff, and with
guidance and support of the of the Faculty Life Course
Committee, prepared a new faculty web guide, (NWFG) –The Newcomer’s Guide to
Emory: An Index of Resources and Information for New Faculty. The Guide has
been on the web since February 2005, and the link to the Guide is http://www.emory.edu/PROVOST/newcomers.
